Adrienne, 20, wanted more body for her hair. Now she has a sophisticated, playful look.

Pretty-in-Pink
Inspired by the vision and mission of Gilda’s Club, 20-year-old Adrienne Gobbo is returning to college after interning at the Toronto location. Her experiences with the members, who are supported through their cancer journey along with their families has led her to her greater purpose of service in the world. She feels more mature and wanted a look to reflect her learned experiences.

HAIR
Eric added layers to Adrienne's heavy, long hair to make it more manageable. The split ends were removed. The look was finished with a vitamin-infused gloss and then styled to perfection into long, lovely curls.

MAKEUP
Sandy applied a light-weight foundation with a yellow undertone to even her warm complexion. A golden brown bronzer dusted lightly over the forehead, cheeks and chin give her a sun-kissed glow. Shadows in sweet pinks and champagne lightly washed over the lid are complemented by smoldering gel black eyeliner. Mascara, a sweep of blush and a rose tone lipstick complete her sophisticated yet playful look.

Adrienne’s final word:
"Having supported my late grandmother through her personal cancer journey, I was delighted when my university matched me with Gilda's Club Greater Toronto (GCGT) for my 3rd year placement - for the Bachelor of Social Work program. I spent 8 months as a student with GCGT and maintain that it was the most inspirational and enlightening experience of my life. Through the summer, I was fortunate enough to be hired by GCGT until I return back to school in September 2012. My entire year at GCGT has been a wonderful and enriching learning experience that I believe has changed and strengthened my positive outlook on life, health and the importance community. I saw this makeover as an exciting and fun opportunity to have this change also reflected in a new look prior to entering my final year of the Social Work program." [Watch the video]

Taryn, 34, wanted to disguise her fine hair with a fun, look. Now you notice her gorgeous eyes.

All eye's on Taryn
This 34-year-old mother of two was more than ready for a new look after losing over 85 lbs. gradually over the last year through a whole lifestyle change (exercise, healthy eating and portion control). As a graphic designer, Taryn Melia wanted a new look to reflect her creative side that would be light, easy to maintain, funky and full of fun.

HAIR
Taryn's fine hair required a good cut to create an illusion of fullness. Stylist Eric Del Monaco chose an asymmetrical style to reflect her creative, fun side. The look was finished with a two-tone combo – a violet tone for the longer bangs swept to the side to highlight her eyes, and a cool chestnut brown for the funky, shorter back.

MAKEUP
A sexy, smokey look enhances Taryn’s gorgeous brown eyes. Shades of chocolate brown on the lid, paired with black eyeliner along the top waterline and flirty false lashes, make the eyes pop. A neutral tone lip gloss and a delicate rose tone blush dusted on the apples of her cheeks finish the look.

Taryn’s final word:
"I needed to do something for myself. My main life's focus had been raising my kids so I was finding that I was really neglecting my health and appearance. I needed to make a change for the better. After losing a lot of weight, I was starting to feel better about myself but needed to revamp my look, as I still felt the same even though I had lost weight. With my new look I feel like I have a fresh start to my new healthier life. I am more confident and this is helping me to continue on my road to success. I love it. I feel rejuvenated. Like a new (improved) version of myself. I can start a new chapter of my life as a healthy version of myself. In short... I feel great!!!"

Jennifer, 50, wanted easy-to-manage hair.
Now she has a youthful look that reflects her spirit.

Natural in neutrals
On the mend since being diagnosed with cancer in 2004, 50-year-old Jennifer Morris was ready for a change. Her many treatments and other health issues has left her hair unmanageable and affected her mindset. With her new inspiring career designing jewellery Jennifer knows that an updated look will give her the confidence to fit into Toronto’s fashion scene.

HAIR
Jennifer’s thick, unruly hair has been given a short, easy-to-manage youthful cut. A lovely warm reddish-brown colour warms up her skin tones. She's now ready to rock Toronto's fashion scene.

MAKEUP
So neutrals are the focus of Jennifer’s clean, natural day look. A hydrating foundation and lightweight concealer make the uneven complexion flawless. Perfectly plucked eyebrows frame her face. Eyes are brightened with warm neutrals on the lid and crease, while a gently smudged chocolate brown liner defines the eyes. Mascara applied to perfectly curled lashes, coupled with the soft rose tones on the cheek and lips, complete her youthful glow.

Jennifer’s final words:
"I love my new hair. I have been getting loads of compliments and a great reaction at the store and with my fellow designers. Tonight we are having a meet and greet at the Queen west store with the press and the movers and shakers for the online fashion and arts world in Toronto as part of the Fresh Collective. Before the makeover I would have been very self-conscious and that would affect their view of me and my jewellery line. But now I feel extremely confident and I fit right in. Thanks so much for all that you’ve done for me. It has changed everything. [Watch the video]

Gilda’s Club Toronto

Gildasclubtoronto.org

Gilda’s Club Toronto provides a service to people and families living in Toronto, here’s their mission statement:

"The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer states, "A cancer diagnosis brings emotional, social, spiritual and practical consequences for patients and families that can reach well beyond the time spent in treatment. For many people, lack of access to information and supportive care services makes the cancer experience much more difficult. There is also growing evidence that survivors may continue to have special needs after their cancer has been treated. For others, improvements are needed in end-of-life care".

Few clinical services invite family and friends into the support process and even fewer are completely free of charge – Gilda’s Club Greater Toronto plays a major role in the community by providing such a cost-free Program – For the Whole Family, the Whole Time.

Our innovative Program has provided this essential complement to medical care through networking and support groups, workshops, education and social activities since 2001."
