BRIGHT
SPRING HITS

“Can everyone wear bright makeup colours?”
– Sarah, Hamilton, Ontario

Yes! Yes! And Yes! There are many easy ways to incorporate pops of colour into your makeup routine. The key to wearing bright makeup colours is to highlight one feature at a time. So, choose either your eyes, lips or cheeks, and keep the rest of your makeup neutral and minimal. You never want to be caught wearing lime-green eyeshadow, orange
lipstick and bright pink blush – all at the same time. Yikes!

So, here are some quick and easy ways you can rock colour this season without looking overdone.

Bright lip colours are not meant to be subtle. They
require confidence and a
little bit of attitude in order
to pull them off properly.
1. Prep your lips to smooth + moisturize. Bold lipsticks like red, coral + fuschia, look best when applied to soft, smooth lips. If lips are chapped, exfoliate them with a homemade blend of honey and sugar; gently apply with a clean toothbrush; rinse with warm water.
2. Prime your lips. Apply a light amount of foundation
all over your lips with a sponge to help neutralize your natural lip colour and
to allow the true lipstick shade to shine.

  3. Application trick. No matter the shade, you can wear it! For a softer pop of colour, press the lipstick into your lips using your finger, then blot with a tissue. Repeat until your desired shade and intensity is achieved.  L’Oréal Paris Color Riche: Plum Passion or True Red;  Covergirl blastflipstick: Stunner, Pucker and Tease. For long-lasting, stand-out lip colour, layer lipstick on top of a lipstain, like
 Covergirl Outlast Lipstain: Everbloom Kiss.
4. Prevent smudging. Run a small amount of translucent powder along the edge of your lips with a cotton swab.
5. A sheer wash of colour. Ease into bright bold lips by using a fun, vibrant shade of lip gloss. It’s more sheer and requires less commitment.  Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss: Flash.

Blush is like giving your cheeks a great big hug. It’s fresh, youthful and instantly livens up your complexion. Try a cream blush for a soft wash of colour.

Apply a small amount of blush onto clean fingertips; warm up the product by lightly rubbing your fingers against your thumb. Then gently swirl on the cream in a circular motion, starting on the apples of the cheeks and working back towards the hairline. A little goes a long way, so apply in light layers; it’s easier to add than to remove. Blend with a clean fluffy, blush brush until the colour melts into the skin.   Maybelline New York Dream Bouncy blush: Hot Tamale.  Stila’s Convertible Color: Gladiola and Fuschia.

Eyeshadow: You’ll be surprised what a little colour will do for your eyes, so have fun with shades you wouldn’t normally wear. Too much is distracting, so less is more. For a sophisticated look, apply only one shade on the lid + never go above the crease.
Maybelline New York Color Tattoo by Eye Studio, 24 hour cream gel shadow: Edgy Emerald, Tenacious Teal, Fierce & Tangy and Painted Purple.  L’Oréal Paris Color Infaillible: Sweet Strawberry and Goldmine;   Make Up For Ever pure pigments: no.18 emerald green and
no.16 blue.
Eyeliner: for just a hint of colour, trade eyeshadow for a colourful eyeliner; super easy to use + a variety of shades. Apply a thin line of eyeliner close to the top lash line. Smudge it out with a cotton swab to soften the line and blend out the colour.
Covergirl liquilineblast: Blue Boom, Green Glow + Violet Voltage.
