Make your soul sing – today |
“Be here now, here now!” – From Ray LaMontagne’s song ‘Be Here Now’ |
|

ummer is the time to step away from routines to have some fun. As you break from your daily routine this summer, think about the outdated beliefs you’re clinging to. Ask yourself, “What makes my soul sing – today?”
Julie is a mother of two young children who always dreamed of being a stay-at-home mom. Five years into living this dream, Julie is feeling burnt out, empty and confused; her children are reacting negatively to her lack of patience and energy. Peter is living his dream of being a successful CEO; however, recently he has lost this passion and has been feeling apathetic and resentful of the work that inspired him for many years. He started losing key staff and clients as a result of his negative energy.
Julie and Peter need to examine their habitual narratives of, “That’s what I’ve always wanted,” or “That’s how I am.” What they historically wanted is no longer working for them. By pursuing one dream, they let other parts of their ‘selves’ atrophy. It’s time to ask themselves, “Where am I now?”
Soul songs Listening to the quiet of her soul, Julie realized that she misses the intellectual stimulation of her career. She has re-examined her belief: “I’ve always wanted to be a stay-at-home mom” and added, “...in the past. What I realize I want now is more intellectual stimulation and financial independence.” |

Peter’s reflections revealed that he’d love to do philanthropic work. He has updated his personal narrative of, “I've always wanted to be the CEO of a company” and added, “...in the past. Now I want to impact change through philanthropy.”
As life happens, the fuel we need to sustain our highest selves also changes. Take the time this summer to reflect and, as Ray LaMontagne sings, “Be here now!” H&L
