New Year’s resolutions

new year, a time to start over, a time to make changes to become the productive, healthy, happy person you’re meant to be. However, enthusiasm may wane when you realize your goal won’t happen overnight – especially when it comes to weight loss.

Taming cravings
Research has shown that people who have difficulty controlling their appetite spend their day on a virtual ‘blood sugar roller coaster’. When blood sugar spikes and then plunges fast, it’s very hard on your body, contributing to the complications of diabetes, heart disease and circulatory problems. It also makes you crave sweets or carbs even when you aren’t hungry. Eating high glycemic foods, simple sugars, fats and carbs over an extended period of time creates insulin resistance and puts you on the blood sugar roller coaster.

With insulin resistance, your body doesn’t respond as it should to the ‘stop eating’ messages related to insulin secretion and blood sugar levels. Even the most disciplined person can be barred from successful weight loss if they become insulin resistant.

By taming your cravings for sugar and fat you’ll be halfway to long term weight loss success.

Fortitude by fibre
Using a safe, potent source of soluble fibre supplement before meals can diminish
cravings and reduce appetite by dramatically reducing the speed of sugar digestion, and leveling out blood sugar. When you are not feeling hungry all the time you can stop the vicious cycle of insulin resistance and cravings, and you can start to lose weight.

For help with your resolutions, look for fibre in capsules, granules that you can
sprinkle on moist foods and in meal replacement shake mixes. Your health and happiness are the most important reasons for maintaining an appropriate weight. Make 2010 your healthiest year ever!
