T
his Alberta-born, Toronto-raised businessman and success coach earned and lost millions before he realized that his mental and emotional relationship with money was standing in the way of long term success. When he changed his beliefs about money and put them into action, he went from zero to millionaire in only two and a half years. Is financial success really that simple? I sat down with Harv recently to hear his success story.

Change your blueprint
Eker teaches that everyone has a personal money blueprint ingrained in the subconscious mind. “You were conditioned about money growing up. If your money blueprint is not preset for a high level of success, you’ll never amass a large amount of money. I’ve seen it almost a million times. I personally had to overcome the ingrained belief that ‘I was a bum and would never amount to anything’,” he reveals. While it’s important to increase your knowledge of strategies for success, Eker believes that until you recondition your subconscious – reset your financial thermostat – you’re doomed to stay where you are financially.

From wealth to health
When Eker was struggling financially, he promised himself that when he became rich he would share the strategy with others. That promise kept him busy for the last dozen years, traveling the globe sharing his message – and it took a toll on his health. “When I turned 50, I started noticing that the normal aches and pains that had cleared up in a day were now with me for a month or two. I’d get fatigued faster. And when my dad had a stroke I put the two together, and thought ‘Harv, if you keep doing what you’re doing – eating pizza and burgers, not sleeping much, plus the high stress levels and flying so much – you’re going to end up like Dad. So what are you going to do?’ I’m luckier than most because I know a lot of high-profile health experts, so I asked for help.”

Eker started with dietary changes, “I began to feel better when eating certain foods and getting off late night eating, and the steak eating. My digestion was much better. This motivated me. I wanted to get all the best practitioners together to learn from them. Then my brain went to ‘why don’t I get all the experts in one room for my students and we’ll learn together?’ That’s how ‘Extreme Health’ was born.” March 2008 was the second, with 26 speakers including Body-for-Life phenom Bill Phillips; Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus relationship author John Gray; plus David Wolfe, raw food guru and environmentalist. It’s so popular another is scheduled for this year.

A key to fulfilment
Eker believes that a key to fulfilment is knowing your gift. “You must know your limitations, and you have to know your gifts. Everyone needs to find their gift. You were given gifts when you were born. If you didn’t have a gift, you wouldn’t be on this earth. An ant has a gift, a bee has a gift, a flower has a gift, or it dies. My gift is to simplify semi-complicated principles into very simple, usable strategies you can use right now. Once I recognized it I put it into action. My company is built around my gift.” Having attended Eker’s seminar I’ve observed his gift in action, and he makes it work. Eker continues, “If you don’t know your gift, find it, develop it and use it. If you don’t use your gift, you’ll suffer for the rest of your life.

You’ll never feel fulfilled if you don’t use what you’ve been given.” And then you have to appreciate it. “You only appreciate gifts by doing them. Putting them out there, serving in that way. That’s why you’ve been given it, so just freakin’ do it.”

If you think this is a spiritual concept, you’re right. Like many people, Eker struggled with the seeming disconnect between spirituality and the pursuit of material success, until he realized the two are not mutually exclusive. “I know I’m destined to help a lot of people,” Eker declares. “In the beginning it was more success-based, now it’s in a much higher conscious way. What I’ve realised and what I want people to get is that you can be financially successful, highly evolved, and spiritual at the same time. They’re a beautiful match.”  H&L
