Keep the kids sun safe
id you know that children and adolescents are most susceptible to sunburn? The highest prevalence of multiple sunburns in the summer occurs in people between the ages of 15 and 24. This results from higher levels of sun exposure combined with fewer protective behaviours.
A guide to success: • Apply sunscreen that provides UVA and UVB protection, SPF 15 or higher. Sufficient amounts need to be spread evenly over the body every two hours. Don’t forget the ears, neck, top of feet and behind legs and knees • Don’t count on sunscreen alone to provide complete protection from the sun. Sun-protective hats and clothing are simple and effective additions to reduce UVA and UVB exposure to the face, head, neck and body • Avoid sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. when the sun’s strength is at its peak or find some shade; 65% of all UV rays hit the earth during these hours • Babies’ skin is much more delicate, increasing the chance of sunburn. Keep babies under six months old out of direct sunlight • Choose a baby specific sunscreen with SPF 30, 50 or 60. The higher, the better.
