ot all signs are as visible as a black eye. A child can be affected mentally and emotionally, leaving them feeling lonely and scared. The repeated abuse of power of one or more children over another affects a child every 7 minutes on a Canadian playground.

Telltale signs
Acknowledgment and assistance from an adult is the best way to stop your child from being bullied. The first step is recognizing the signs in your child’s behavior or personality:

  • Withdrawn from school activities, anti-social, doesn't want to go to school
  • Drastic change in grades, reduced attention span, difficulty remembering information
  • Panic attacks, increased shyness, depression, irritability, confidence loss or often feeling ill
  • Change in sleep patterns, eating habits, bedwetting
  • Belongings mysteriously disappear: clothes, electronics, money, books
  • Comes home with unexplained bumps and bruises.

Pay particular attention to changes in behavior in transition years or moving schools.

Got lice? Don’t panic!

Just as common as catching a cold from fellow classmates, children can be infested with head lice, spread by head to head contact or by sharing hats, combs and pillows. But don’t panic! Lice are not hazardous to health and 100% treatable.

A key sign is a very itchy head. Since itching takes place two to six weeks after infestation, if an outbreak occurs check your child regularly. Lice live on both clean and dirty human hair and feed by sucking blood from the scalp. Use a long-tooth, metal louse comb to check hair roots at the nape of the neck, back of the scalp and behind

the ears,
here lice lay brown eggs – nits – that stick to hair like glue. Once lice and nits are removed, hatched white nit shells may remain. Don’t panic, another treatment won’t be necessary.
  • Inform school, family and friends immediately
  • Tie up long hair + don’t share hair accessories
  • Vacuum all surfaces that have had head contact
  • Wash bedding and clothes in hot water, at 60°C
  • Effective treatments: Lice Stop, Lice Shield or Zap
  • For successful treatment, follow directions. H&L
